These examples use simple structures while teaching professional habits and third-person verbs.
  • Rule 1: Add "-s" for most verbs 

    • to check - checks / to sign - signs
    • Examples: He checks his email every morning. 
    • She signs the contract before working.

  • Rule 2: Add "-es" for verbs ending in -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -zz 

    • to finish - finishes / to dress - dresses
    • Examples: He finishes his reports on time. / 
    • She dresses professionally for her job interview.

  • Rule 3: Add "-s" for silent "-e" endings, pronounced with an extra syllable 

    • To close - closes
    • Examples: The cashier closes the bill transaction when the family finishes eating.
  • Rule 4: Add "-es" for verbs ending in -o 

    • to do - does
    • Examples: The assistant does excellent work for the company.

  • Rule 5: Add "-s" for verbs ending in vowel + "y" (buys, enjoys, pays, stays)

    • To buy - buys
    • Examples: The restaurant owner buys fresh avocados directly from local farmers.
  • Rule 6 (consonant + y → -ies):
    • to reply - replies / to apply - applies
    • Examples: She replies quickly to client messages. / He applies for a new job online.

  • Rule 7 (Irregular):
    • to have - has
    • Examples: The new manager has a meeting at 9:00 AM.

Circle the correct verb for each workplace situation.
