Additional Workforce & Business Sentences
These examples use simple structures while teaching professional habits and third-person verbs.
Rule 1: Add "-s" for most verbs
- to check - checks / to sign - signs
- Examples: He checks his email every morning.
- She signs the contract before working.
Rule 2: Add "-es" for verbs ending in -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -zz
- to finish - finishes / to dress - dresses
- Examples: He finishes his reports on time. /
- She dresses professionally for her job interview.
Rule 3: Add "-s" for silent "-e" endings, pronounced with an extra syllable
- To close - closes
- Examples: The cashier closes the bill transaction when the family finishes eating.
Rule 4: Add "-es" for verbs ending in -o
- to do - does
- Examples: The assistant does excellent work for the company.
Rule 5: Add "-s" for verbs ending in vowel + "y" (buys, enjoys, pays, stays)
- To buy - buys
- Examples: The restaurant owner buys fresh avocados directly from local farmers.
- Rule 6 (consonant + y → -ies):
- to reply - replies / to apply - applies
- Examples: She replies quickly to client messages. / He applies for a new job online.
- Rule 7 (Irregular):
- to have - has
- Examples: The new manager has a meeting at 9:00 AM.
