Lent in Guatemala - Reading

Imagen
Lent in Guatemala Lent in Guatemala is a very special time full of tradition and culture. It starts on Ash Wednesday and ends with Easter Sunday. During this time, many people go to church, pray, and think about how to become better people. Every Friday, there are Holy Vigils ("velaciones") in different churches. Families visit the churches to see beautiful decorations, candles, and religious images. One of the most famous traditions in Guatemala is making carpets, called alfombras, on the streets. People use flowers, colored sawdust, fruit, pine needles, and other materials to create beautiful designs. These carpets are made for the processions, where people carry religious statues through the streets. The carpets are made with love and are destroyed when the procession walks over them, which is part of the tradition. Food is also an important part of Lent in Guatemala. Many people eat traditional dishes like sweet chickpeas (garbanzos en miel), mole with fried plantains, an...

Last Summer - short reading using Simple Past

Imagen
Last Summer Short story using Simple Past  Last summer, my family and I had an amazing vacation at the beach. We woke up early every morning and walked along the sandy shore. The waves crashed gently, and seagulls flew overhead. We collected colorful seashells and watched crabs scurry along the water's edge. During the day, we played beach volleyball and built magnificent sandcastles. My little sister giggled while she buried me in the sand, and we all laughed together. The sun was bright, and the water was refreshing. We also enjoyed delicious ice cream cones, trying different flavors each day. In the evenings, we sat on beach blankets and watched the mesmerizing sunset. The sky turned shades of pink, orange, and purple, creating a breathtaking scene. Sometimes we brought out a guitar and sang songs under the starlit sky. It was a vacation filled with joy, laughter, and beautiful memories. Questions for Speaking Practice:  -1. Where did the family go for vacation? 2. What did...
